Salem - Mr. Dennis Bronislaw Makar 77, of Salem, beloved husband of Janet Leslie (Newman) Makar, died Wednesday, January 9, 2018 at the Pilgrim Nursing Home in Peabody following a brief illness.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Bronislaw and Mary B. (Bartnicki) Makar. He was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of the former St. John the Baptist Polish School, Salem High School and Coyne Electrical School.
A trained and licensed electrician, Mr. Makar had been most recently employed with the Peabody Essex Museum for over eight years until the time of his retirement.
A lifelong resident of the City of Salem, Dennis was a communicant and volunteer at the Immaculate Conception Church in Salem. As a young man, he was a member of the Drum and Bugle Corp in Salem where he made many lifelong friends. He had a passion for the ocean, boating, and enjoyed taking long rides along the North Shore coastline. Dennis was a local Salem history buff, enjoyed visiting with friends over coffee, and had a love for all animals.
He was a devoted husband of over 50 years. He and Janet were the best of friends and were inseparable. They were a great team and dedicated beyond words.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife Janet Leslie (Newman) Makar of Salem, his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jay MacIntosh of Marietta, GA, Donna and Roger Armstrong of Danvers, Judy and Frank Brennan of Georgetown and John and Kathee Newman of Gloucester and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Dolores MacIntosh who also passed within recent days.
His funeral will be held from The O’Donnell Funeral Home, 46 Washington Sq., (at Salem Common) Salem, Tuesday, Jan. 15th at 11 a.m. followed by his funeral Mass in the Immaculate Conception Church, Hawthorne Blvd., Salem at 11:30 a.m. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hours prior to the service from 9 to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Mary Queen of the Apostles Parish, 153 Federal St., Salem, Ma 01970.
