Daryel R.'s Story
Daryel Rosario Duhaime, 61, of Salem, died peacefully at home on Saturday, November 18, 2017.
Born in Salem, he was the son of Joan Duhaime and the late Joseph R. Duhaime Sr. He was raised in Salem and a graduate of Salem High School, Class of 1974, where he was Class President. He attended Salem State College and became an entrepreneur at an early age. Daryel owned multiple homes and businesses including a five-star restaurant in Ipswich named Jonquils. He was a licensed Real Estate Broker and the owner and operator of Pillar Real Estate in Wakefield. Daryel was also the proud co-owner of The Greenwood Mountain Inn in Hebron, Maine. There he delighted guests with his hospitality, culinary expertise and hosted many wedding and functions on the beautiful grounds. He was an accomplished chef, once working at the Bay Tower Room in Boston. He especially loved to entertain and cook for friends and family at the inn.
Daryel was an avid swimmer, frequently participating in the Swim for Life in Provincetown where he was the number one fundraiser for several years. He was committed to many charitable organizations including the Pan Mass Challenge, Rosie’s Place in Boston and Hebron Academy in Maine. He ran the Boston Marathon twice in 1980 and 1981.
He loved to laugh and loved to make others laugh. His outgoing and fun-loving personality will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
Daryel is survived by his beloved mother, Joan Duhaime of Rowley; his two brothers, Dana Duhaime of Salem and Joseph R. Duhaime Jr. and his wife, Patricia of Lynnfield; his nephews, Eric, Brad, and Ryan; his nieces, Ashley, Kimberly, and Jessica; and great-niece, Hannah.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service which will be held in The O’Donnell Funeral Home, 46 Washington Sq. (at Salem Common), Salem, on Wednesday, November 22, at 11 a.m. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
