Darien Welch

May 26, 1963 - October 18, 2018

Darien Welch Los Angels, CA - Darien Welch, beloved brother and uncle, died on October 18, 2018, of complications from a heart attack two weeks earlier. He passed away surrounded by friends and family. Darien was born John Vincent Welch in Salem in 1963 and grew up in Lynn, Mass. Darien moved to California in 1993 to pursue his art and had strong communities of loving friends on both the East and West coasts.
Darien was an Artist. He wrote, he drew, he sang, and he composed. He worked as a graphic artist professionally, but his true passion was his own art, and those who will remember him know him as a gifted and creative spirit who will live on with each of us in the art he’s left behind.
Darien was predeceased by his father Melvin D. Welch in 1988 and his beloved mother Sophia Welch just 2 months ago. Darien is survived by a sister, Trish Dobson of El Sobrante, Calif., and four brothers: Jerome Welch of Methuen, Mass., Christopher Welch of Glendale, Calif., Joseph Welch of Danbury, Conn. and Gregory Welch of Andover, Mass. He is also survived by 9 loving nieces and nephews: Michael Welch, Kylie Dobson, Hailey Welch, Alex Welch, Griffin Welch, Becky Welch, Kendall Dobson, Amy Welch and Skyler Welch.
Services will be held at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills on October 26 and at the House of Seven Gables in Salem on November 10. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Balooja’s Foundation (https://www.baloojasfoundation.com/).

I am in total shock. I lost touch after he moved from his first apt. in LA. In our 20's we were great friends. I used to go to his gigs and we would go see other bands play. When he first moved out to CA he tape recorded himself talking to me while driving and he mailed me the tape. I thought how cool, funny and original was that! I still have it over 30 years later.
I have been trying to find him all these years. I am so very sad and sorry to hear this. He was very passionate about life. I guess my search will end. I wish I had a current picture of him but, the one when we were younger will live on. Darien, you are missed my friend.
