Daniel (Pete)'s Story
CHELSEA- Daniel (Pete) W. McManus of Marblehead, died December 30 2017 at the Chelsea Soldiers Home.
He grew up in Lynn, of parents, Daniel W. McManus Sr. and Helen (Michaud) McManus. Pete joined the Navy in WWII, serving on the USS Augusta in the battle of Normandy! He was appointed as an acting marine while assigned as President Harry Truman's personal body guard on the ship. Returning home, Pete became a Lynn Police Officer serving 32 years. Pete's motto was "Every child deserves a second chance!"
Pete leaves his wife, C Joan McManus and their son, Dr. Peter McManus of Chicago. He leaves his sister-in-law, Madeleine (Herrick) Belisle and many nieces and nephews. Pete was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Virginia Shea.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at the VFW Hall in Marblehead MA 321 W Shore Dr. on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chelsea Soldiers Home, 91 Crest Ave., Chelsea MA 02150.
