IPSWICH - Clare P. (Goddard) Herron, 76, wife of Thomas J. Herron of Linebrook Road, died Tuesday, December 19, 2017 in the Beverly Hospital following her sudden illness.
Born in Philadelphia, PA December 29, 1940, she was the daughter and the only child of the late Charles and Clare (Curley) Goddard. Clare was a 1962 graduate of West Chester University of Pennsylvannia. For 25 years she taught at the Pine Grove elementary School in Rowley. Clare's concern and love for animals compelled her to start the Ipswich Humane Group 35 years ago. She remained president for thirty-two years which lead to the adoption of many fortunate animals. Her love of animals was second only to that of her children and family. Friendship was a strong influence Clare's life as she joined the same group of Sip & Sew ladies for over thirty-five years every Thursday night.
In addition to her husband Tom of 53 years she is survived by a daughter, Maire C. Herron of Jackson, Wyo.; two sons, Thomas C. Herron and his wife Suzanne of Ipswich and Matthew D. Herron and his wife, Lindley of Jackson, Wyo. and two grandchildren, Thomas and Hannah Herron both of Ipswich.
Visiting hours will be 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High St., Ipswich with a memorial service to follow at 10 am on Friday, December 29 in the First Church in Ipswich, Meetinghouse Green, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Her interment in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery will be private.
