Clara M. (Ring)'s Story
Clara M. (Ring) Donahue, 83, known to many as Claire, passed away on Monday, November 27, at the High Pointe Hospice House, Haverhill.
Mrs. Donahue was born in Salem, June 24, 1934, daughter of the late Joseph and Katherine (Currier) Ring.
Clara was a graduate of Salem High School, Class of 1952, and a graduated of Salem Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1955. She was devoted to being a nurse. Love, caring, gratitude and humor were the themes of Clara’s life which she shared with her many patients, friends and family. She was a Supervisor at Salem Hospital where she also taught nursing before becoming Director of Nurses at Abbott House, Lynn, MA, and Devereux House in Marblehead. Following her retirement she continued to consult to other long term care facilities well into her seventies.
Clara was predeceased by her loving husband of 28 years, Andrew A. Donahue in 1996. Years later, Clara enjoyed the loving companionship of her partner of 10 years, Arnold Pevna, who predeceased her in 2016.
Clara is survived by her three step-children, whom she raised. Diane Rothschild of Pennsylvania, Andrew Donahue of Lynn and the Honorable Judge Leslie A. Donahue of Amesbury, widow of the late Attorney Daniel T. McGlynn; her beloved grandchildren, William Rothschild, Jennie Rothschild and Andrew McGlynn; her devoted son-in-law, Adam Rothschild; her loving sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Edward Curtin of Salem; her nieces and their husbands; Sharon and Robert Keane and Rachel and Al McAlpine; her nephews and their wives; Robert Curtin and Sharon Cameron and William and Becky Curtin; and 10 great-nieces and nephews, Sean, Julia, Haley, Theodore, Miranda, Aisling, Rose, Clayton, Cecelia, and Bradley. In addition, Clara was blessed with special friends; David and Joanne Pevna, Attorney William and Nancy Barron, Mrs. Barbara Davis, a classmate from Salem School of Nursing.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her calling hours on Thursday, November 30, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill, followed by a Funeral Service at 12:15 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Burial will private and at the convenience of the family in St. Joseph Cemetery, Lynn.
