Catherine's Story

LYNN, MA - Catherine P. Prizito, age 96 and a resident of Lynn for 50 years, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at Care One at Essex Park in Beverly. She was born on February 10, 1921, in Peabody, the daughter of the late, Michael and Sophia (Borish) Petkevich. She was raised and educated in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School, NSCC, and Northeastern University. She received a certification of Therapeutic Recreation and Re-motivation Technique. Catherine was the Recreation Director of Lenox Hill Nursing and Rehab Facility in Lynn for 15 years, retiring in 1986. She was a member of the Infant of Prague Guild, Treasurer of the St. Pius V Sodality, both the Mass. and National Therapeutic Societies, American Healthcare Association of Washington, D.C., Mass. Association of Activity Therapy Professionals. She was a volunteer at My Brother's Table, volunteer CCD teacher at St. Pius V Church, and a literacy tutor at Higgins School in Peabody.
Catherine was predeceased by her husband, Joseph M. Prizito. She is survived by her daughter, Gail Johnson and husband, Nils of Connecticut, and her son, Paul Prizito of Lynn; her granddaughter, Kristin Gehsmann and her grandson, Nils A. Johnson; as well as her great-granddaughters, Abigail and Ashley; along with two nieces and one nephew. She was also predeceased by her sister, Frances Murphy of Topsfield. Catherine's family would like to acknowledge the staff at the Larcom Unit of Essex Park for their love, patience and wonderful care of our mother. Her family and friends will miss her smile, sense of humor and her love.
Family and friends are invited to attend Mrs. Prizito's visitation on Tuesday, February 13, 2018, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated following the visitation at 11 a.m. at St. Pius V Church, 215 Maple Street, Lynn. Burial will follow the Mass in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, 185 Lake Street, Peabody.
