Carole's Story

NAPLES, FL- Carole Edith (Cheney) Sarnie died peacefully on February 18, 2018 at the age of 83.
Carole is survived by her loving husband, Richard Walter Sarnie, with whom she shared 56 years of marriage. In addition, she is survived by her cherished family: her son, Richard Jr., his wife, Susan, and their children, Garrett and Mia of Wrentham; her son, Robert and his wife, Marilyn, and their children, Rachel, and Jared of Shrewsbury. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Joyce Levitt of Nevada, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; Louis and Edith (Chapman) Cheney; and her siblings, Beverly Harris, Jacqueline Nihan, and Paul Cheney.
Carole was born in Melrose. She graduated from Swampscott High School in 1952. She continued her education by obtaining a Bachelor's degree from Salem State University and a Master's degree in Education from Harvard University. She worked 32 years in the field of education as a teacher, guidance counselor, and school psychologist in California, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. She retired from the Haverhill, MA school department in 1994.
Upon retiring to Naples, Fla, Carole enjoyed many of her hobbies, in particular playing the piano. Carole was proud to have taken piano lessons at the New England Conservatory. In addition, she enjoyed reading, playing tennis, attending plays, playing bridge, and traveling with her husband, Richard. She loved socializing, particularly with the wives of Richard's fellow Massachusetts State troopers. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, March 11 at 3 p.m. at the Swampscott Cemetery located at 400 Essex Street in Swampscott. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Carole's life.
