Carmela L.'s Story
Carmela Loreti Norwood, 94, died Sunday at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers after several months of declining health. She was the wife of the late Raymond R. Norwood, with whom she shared almost 58 years of marriage.
Born in Beverly, daughter of the late Berardino and Gaetana (Macri) Loreti, she was a lifelong resident of Beverly and was valedictorian of the Class of 1941 at St. Mary’s High School. She was employed by the former Beverly Savings Bank and held many positions there until her retirement in 1988. Carmela was a devout Roman Catholic and a long-time parishioner at St. John the Evangelist Church. She was an avid reader and an excellent cook. Carmela enjoyed knitting and solving crossword puzzles but nothing pleased her more than spending time with her family and friends.
Surviving Carmela are her son, Jeffrey S. Norwood of Beverly; her daughter, Cynthia A. Norwood of Beverly; her brother, Philip A. Loreti and his wife, Dorothy, of Danvers; her sister-in-law, Maureen A. Loreti of Beverly; her brother-in-law, Paul L. Hennessey of Beverly; her brother- in-law, Gilbert A. Norwood, MD of Beverly; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Ursula R. Loreti and Mary A. Hennessey and her brother, Bernard L. Loreti.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church, 111 New Balch Street, Beverly, Friday, June 9, 2017 at 12 noon. A visiting hour will be held at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, prior to the Mass on Friday morning from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
