Calista M. (Folsom)'s Story

Mrs. Calista M. (Folsom) Greenough, 91, of Danvers, Mass., beloved wife of the late Mager R. Greenough, died Thursday, August 24, 2017, at Putnam Farm Assisted Living in Danvers surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Salem, Calista was the youngest daughter of the late John R. and Mary Ann (Lee) Folsom. She was raised and educated in Salem. She graduated from Salem Classical High School in June, 1943. One month later she enrolled at Northeastern University as a member of its first class that included women. She graduated with a B.A. in 1946.
While raising her family, Calista was a part-time substitute teacher in Danvers and Topsfield and then, after earning her certification at Salem State College, was the librarian at the Proctor School in Topsfield for many years.
A longtime resident of the Town of Danvers, she was an active member of Calvary Episcopal Church (now All Saints Episcopal Church) for over 60 years. She was a member of the Folsom Family Association serving in various capacities and was a member of the Mayflower Society. Calista had a passion for genealogy and was an enthusiastic member of the Essex Society of Genealogists. A women of many talents, she was an avid gardener and enjoyed quilting, knitting and crocheting. She was a charter member of the Crossroad Quilters Guild. She enjoyed spending summers in Rangeley, Maine, with her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt who will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.
Surviving Calista are her daughters, Judith M. Santin and her husband, Frank of Dover, N.H., and Nancy E. Anketell and her partner, Thomas M. Osborne of Seminole, Fla.; her son, Donald M. Greenough and his wife, Lucia of Ipswich; her five grandchildren, David, Amy and Peter Santin, Adrienne Nugent and Hannah Greenough; and six great-grandchildren, Alie, Brady, Carter, Gianna, Thomas and Matthew. She was the sister of the late Lorinda M. Jones and John R. Folsom Jr.
At Calista’s request, services will be private. Assisting the family with the arrangements is the Peterson O’Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St. (Route 62), Danvers.
