BEVERLY - Bertil I. Anderson, age 88, of Beverly, died on Wednesday March 7, 2018, surrounded by his family, at the Hunt Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of the late Teresa E. (Gonyea) Anderson with whom he had shared 34 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Melrose, he was the son of the late John I. and Alma O. (Bjornson) Anderson. He attended Melrose schools, and was a graduate of Melrose High School. He had lived in Beverly for over 50 years.
Bertil was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during both World War II and the Korean Wars.
He was a great dad and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family. A businessman, he had owned and operated a collection agency and a restoration business. He was also the founder of the Credit Bureau of Cape Cod and had worked as the head custodian in the Manchester School System. For over 83 years he was an avid stamp collector.
He is survived by two daughters, Debra L. McGee and her husband William of Beverly, and Kathleen Paradis and her husband Robert of Haverhill, six grandchildren, Renee Lacasse, Monique LeFrancois, Carrie Dick, Joseph McGee, Robert Paradis, and Nicole Paradis; as well as eight great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Cheryl LeFrancois; the brother of the late Edith Hicks; and the longtime companion of the late Mary Turchi.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 19, 2018, at 10 a.m. in Central Cemetery, Beverly. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
