BEVERLY FARMS, MA - Barbara passed away in her sleep early on the morning of Tuesday, January 16, with daughter, Beth, by her side. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 66 years, Richard A. McGann, in 2014.
Barbara was born in Manchester-by-the-Sea to George and Norma Burchstead, before moving to Beverly Farms where she married her husband, Richard, and started a family. She enjoyed many years as a nursery school teacher at the Hastings House.
At the age of 93, Barbara had lived a full and happy life as a loving wife, devoted mother, proud grandmother and cherished great-grandmother. She was rarely seen without a smile and always went with the flow. Her and Dick spent summers living in Beverly Farms and winters in Largo, Fla. She had a colorful sense of style, loved to laugh, and could carry on a conversation with anyone. She loved playing golf, going out with friends for coffee, summer days at West Beach, and daily trips to the Beverly Senior Center. She had many lifelong friends and was one of the best mothers and grandmothers one could hope for.
Barbara is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, William and Paula McGann and Robert and Kathy McGann all of Beverly; her daughter, Beth LeBel of Beverly Farms; five grandchildren, Katie Murray and her husband, Sean, Ali LeBel, Andrew LeBel, Kelly Stantial and her husband, Sam, and Jill McGann; two great-grandchildren, Lucy and Benjamin Murray; special niece, Nancy Gray of Beverly Farms; and several other nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her son-in-law, Kenneth LeBel, and two sisters, Gerry Gray and Jenny Rhodes.
Her funeral services will be a private affair in the spring for immediate family. There are no visiting hours.
