Salem - Barbara (Kenney) DeFrancesco, 88, a lifelong resident of Salem passed away peacefully on Friday, June 21, 2019 surrounded by her family at Massachusetts General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Joseph DeFrancesco who died in 2012.
Barbara was born in Salem, MA on July 1, 1930 the daughter of Arthur and Lillian Kenney and was raised and educated there graduating from Salem High School.
She had been employed at the New England Telephone Company for many years until her retirement in 1992.
Barbara dedicated her entire life to her family. Her greatest joy was when she became a grandmother and then a great grandmother.
She loved to read, play cards, travel to Delray Beach, Florida every spring, meet up with her lady friends weekly at the mall and was an avid Patriots fan.
She was a source of love, strength, inspiration and happiness for all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her son Barry DeFrancesco and his wife Lorri of Salem, her grandchildren, Lindsay (DeFrancesco) Brennan and her husband Keith of Salem, Robert DeFrancesco and his wife Angela of Wakefield, Joseph DeFrancesco and his girlfriend Sami Curren of Swampscott, her great grandchildren Emma, Tenley, Ryan, Rocco and Nadia. Her brothers Richard Kenney, Frank Kenney, James Kenney and her sister Sharon Kenney.
She was also predeceased by her son Robert DeFrancesco and her brother Robert Kenney.
Visiting hours will take place on Tuesday June 25, 2019 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Murphy Funeral Home, located at 85 Federal St Salem. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday June 26, 2019 at 10:00 AM at the Immaculate Conception Church, 15 Hawthorne Blvd, Salem followed by a burial at St Mary's Cemetery, located at 226 North Street, Salem.
