Barbara's Story

PEABODY- Barbara A. (MacLean) Creighan, age 86, departed on Wednesday, December 20, 2017, surrounded by family and caregivers, at Sunrise Gardner Park in Peabody.
Born in Lynn on April 21, 1931, the daughter of Wilfred A. MacLean and M. Gertrude (Keown) MacLean was raised by her widowed mother, assisted by loving aunts, uncles, and grandparents at the bustling Keown family home on Perley Street in West Lynn, following her father's sudden death before her birth.
She attended Sacred Heart Grammar School, and was a member of St. Mary's Girls High School, Class of 1948. A 1950 graduate of Winslow Secretarial School in Boston, her career aspirations were derailed after a blind date with Luke Creighan of County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, upon his arrival in the USA. They married in 1951, settled in South Peabody, and shared a 55-year marriage until his death in 2007. Following the birth of her sixth child in 1963, she bought a typewriter and practiced her typing skills, ultimately landing a secretarial position at General Electric River Works. She thrived in a succession of challenging assignments at GE before her retirement in 1986.
In 1973, the Creighan's moved to Pond View Road, and enjoyed life on Sluice Pond until Barbara became a Sunrise resident in 2012. She was a faithful communicant at St. Pius V Church, a Eucharistic minister at Union Hospital, and a member of the Secular Franciscan Order.
Luke and Barbara made frequent trips with Janie and Al to Galway, Knock Shrine, and Fermanagh. With Kevin, Cathy, and Cathy's Mom Janice, they ventured to exotic beaches in Kauai, Belize, and Malta to escape winter. Danny and Bobby shared their appreciation of Sluice Pond, and were always involved with home improvement projects. After Luke's death, Barbara savored every opportunity to visit Patty in Rhode Island, and she loved going "up-country" with Paula and Jim. The family is grateful for the joyful and dedicated care she received during her five year stay at Sunrise.
She is survived by six children and their spouses, Jane (Albert) D'Addario of Wakefield; Kevin (Cathy Hampton) of Washington, D.C.; Danny of Peabody; Bob (Lori-anne) of Lynn; Patty Kausel of East Greenwich, RI; and Paula (Jim) Fauci of Boxford; eight grandchildren, Stacey Creighan of Lynn; Robert Creighan of Somerville; Julia and John Kausel of East Greenwich; Danielle, Michael, and Luke Fauci of Boxford; and Michelle Fauci of Boston. She leaves her sister-in-law, Mary (Hoey) MacLean of Melbourne, FL; several Keown cousins; and her life-long friend, Anne Pelletier of Lynn. She was predeceased by her brother, Bob MacLean (Lynn FD, Ret.) of Melbourne, Fla.
Her funeral will be held on Friday, December 29th at 10 a.m. from the Solimine Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Rt. 129), Lynn, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Pius V Church at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara's memory may be made to St. Pius V School, Endowment Fund, 202 Maple Street, Lynn, MA 01904.
