Georgetown - Arthur (Art) Jospeh Paquette, 75, a longtime resident of Georgetown and active parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2019, following a progressive battle with dementia.

Art is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Kathleen Long Paquette; his sons Bryan H. Paquette and Todd B. Paquette; his sister Jeanne Comeau of Rochester, N.H., and many extended family members. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and fellow parishioners, who will always remember Art as a wonderful example of unfailing patience, kindness, gentleness, and deep commitment to faith and family.

Art was born at Peabody Hospital on June 25, 1943 to the late Mary Pauline Picone and Arthur J. Paquette, and grew up in the Castle Hill neighborhood of Salem, Mass. As a young man, he worked as a chef for the Society of Jesuits in Boston, Mass., and later served as a manager at Harvest Market Supermarkets in Georgetown. Later, near retirement years, he was self-employed, running a small office cleaning business. An avid gardener and outdoorsman, he enjoyed camping and fishing with his wife and sons. He loved collecting coins and local historical artifacts, which he shared with local communities by giving informative presentations. He was also an excellent candlepin bowler, who enjoyed competing in league tournaments. Most importantly, he was very active in Catholic church ministry - including forming a men's rosary group and visiting residents at Baker-Katz Nursing Home, where he would later live out his own last days.

Family and friends are kindly invited to attend Art's wake and funeral services. The wake will be held on May 16, 2019 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Conte Giamberardino Funeral Home at 14 Pleasant St., Georgetown; the funeral will be held on May 17, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 94 Andover St., Georgetown. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Art's name to the Knights of Columbus, the Georgetown Historical Society, or St. Mary's Catholic Church. Dear Kathy, Todd, Bryan and Jeanne,

Our deepest sympathy for the loss of your dad. He was perhaps the kindest gentlest person we knew growing up as kids and he will be forever a part of our family. My dad credits Art as the single most important person that helped him get through his tough early years in this country and we will never forget that. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
