Armand W.'s Story
Mr. Armand W. Leone, 93, of Swampscott and formerly of Marblehead, died on Sunday, May 28, 2017, in the Bertram House in Swampscott after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Barbara A. (Brady) Leone.
He was born in Worcester, the son of the late Guiseppe and Raffaela (Lopriore) Leone. He was raised in Swampscott and graduated from Swampscott High School. He was also a graduate of Bryant and Stratton.
Mr. Leone was a Navy veteran of WWII, serving as a Radioman 2nd Class. He was a crew member on the Destroyer U.S.S. Young DD580, operating in the Pacific Theater. He also served in the Korean War. Mr. Leone was a life member of the VFW Post 2005 in Marblehead, Amvets Post 161 in Lynn, and past commander of the Leon E. Abbott Post 57 in Swampscott. He was also a member of the Tin Can Sailors Association. Mr. Leone was an avid golfer and a member of the HAGA (Half A... Golf Association) in Seminole, Fla.
Mr. Leone worked in the accounting department for the Boston and Maine Railroad, retiring in 1984 after 36 years of service.
He leaves a brother, Joseph Leone of Salem and a sister Mary Zarbo, also of Salem. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. He is the brother of the late Santé, Victor, Mario, and Helen Leone.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2017, at 9 a.m. from the Solimine Funeral Home, 67 Ocean St. (Route 1A), Lynn, followed by a funeral Mass in Holy Family Church, Lynn at 10 a.m. Burial in Swampscott Cemetery. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
