Anthony L.'s Story

MARBLEHEAD- Anthony L. Ventresca Jr. of Marblehead, passed away on Dec. 31, 2017 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers with his family by his side. He recently celebrated his 70th Birthday, spent Christmas at home with his family and passed in peace and comfort in the early morning hours of New Year's Eve.
He was the son of the late Anthony L. Ventresca Sr. and Josephine (Mascioli) Ventresca. Born in Winthrop, raised in Beverly, Anthony attended Beverly public schools, North Shore Community College and Salem State. He was a United States Army Veteran and active in Beverly community affairs, serving two terms as Ward 2 Alderman from 1976-1980. He was successfully self employed as a Real Estate Developer for many years, before embarking on a new career, and eventually retiring in 2014 after a very distinguished 12 year career with the Department of Homeland Security.
"Boppy" as he was lovingly referred to by his family believed that nothing was more important than family and he never missed an opportunity to share that sentiment with anyone he met. He was a private, humble man with a contagiously dry sense of humor who made his own way in the world. Those that knew him, knew the love and devotion he had for his family. His hobbies included anything that had to do with his grandchildren....yearly vacations on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, attending their school and sporting events, helping with homework, listening to the latest stories and gossip they shared with him, and teaching them life lessons they will carry forever.
He was predeceased by his son, Matthew Anthony in 1977 and now leaves his loving wife of 48 years, Deborah (Strout) Ventresca, his beloved daughter Amy, her husband Bill and the pride and joy of his life, his three grandchildren, Grace, Greta and Harry Cunningham all of Marblehead.
He also leaves behind his extended family which includes his brother-in-law and best friend, Mark Butler Strout of Marblehead, Vincent Strout (Margaret McCann) of Westfield, N.J., Keith Strout of Las Vegas, NV, sisters-in-Law, Pamela (Robert) Herbst of Marblehead, Stephanie (David) Marino of Newburyport, Faith (Brian) Stengel of Greenwich, Conn., Heather (Matthew) Finn of Marblehead, Hope (Jim) Morrissey of Philadelphia, Pa., Heidi (Todd) Abernethy of Tallahassee, Fla.. and his many adoring nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 85 Atlantic Ave., Marblehead on Monday, January 8 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please honor the wonderful staff that helped care for Anthony in his home and at Kaplan House by making a donation to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
