Alfred's Story

BEVERLY - Alfred T. "Sonny" Commerford Jr. 84, beloved husband of Mary J. (Forrest) Commerford, died peacefully on Monday, December 18, 2017 at the Beverly Hospital.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Alfred T. Sr. and Madeline (Stone) Commerford. He was raised in Beverly and graduated from Beverly High School.
Mr. Commerford had been employed for many years as a machinist for Post Machinery in Beverly. He later worked for Tufts University and as a bartender at the Union Club in Beverly.
A longtime resident of Beverly, he was a member of the Italian Community Center, the Franco-American Club, the Beverly Elks as well as the Union Club in Beverly. Alfred was an avid sports fan who enjoyed the Red Sox and Patriots. He also had a great love for Jazz music.
In addition to his wife, with whom he shared forty eight years of marriage, he is survived by two daughters, Sheila Bates and her husband, Ken Howes of Danvers and Nicole McEachern and her husband, Justin of Salem, a son, Ron Bates and his wife, Donna of Stratham, N.H., several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. He was also the father of the late Herbert "Skipper" Bates and Debra LaFontaine and sister of the late Elizabeth "Betty" Pinciaro.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral services will be private. Arrangements by the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly.
